Washington Post: Cuba pioneers Corona vaccination document evidence of ineffectiveness of US sanctions

Pak Sahafat – The Washington Post in an article described Cuba as a pioneer in vaccinating children against Covid-19 and highlighted the country’s success in the vaccination campaign despite US sanctions.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency on Sunday, the newspaper cited Cuba as a pioneer in the corona vaccination, saying “there were major obstacles to Cuba and the country faced US sanctions, food chain problems and internal economic challenges.”

The Washington Post reported today that the Washington Post was covering the issue of vaccinating children under the age of five in Cuba, an achievement made months ago.

The Washington Post article: Many of the advanced equipment and pharmaceutical products come from the United States or Europe, but Cuba tried to circumvent US sanctions by buying through third countries.

Gerardo Guilin, director of biomedical research at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Havana, told the Washington Post: We are constantly forced to change intermediaries so that US officials cannot identify them and cancel our purchases.

The publication also notes the scientific success achieved as a result of the vision of Fidel Castro, the historical leader of the Cuban revolution, and his role in the development of the country’s biotechnology industry.

According to the Washington Post, Years of working on children’s vaccines have been an advantage for Cuban scientists. Last September, Cuba launched the world’s first large-scale vaccination campaign against Covid-19, targeting 1.7 million people between the ages of 2 and 18 on a three-dose schedule. The sharp decline in the number of coronavirus cases in recent weeks, and after about three weeks of zero deaths from the disease, Cuban authorities have abolished the mandatory use of the mask. A decision that has definitely been made thanks to the successful vaccination campaign.

The British Guardian newspaper earlier (May 1400) in an article entitled “Cuba rises to produce domestic corona vaccines” referred to Cuba’s efforts to produce indigenous vaccines against Covid-19 disease despite US sanctions and difficult economic conditions caused by the epidemic.

The Guardian wrote at the time: The Caribbean Island, which has been under US siege for nearly 60 years, could become the smallest country in the world to have a domestic vaccine.

For at least the past decade, the Cuban government has been able to protect the country from diseases such as diphtheria, tetanus, mumps, pertussis, etc., by producing and carrying out vaccinations in its national plans.
