US vulnerability to cyber attacks

The New York Times reports that the federal government does not have the infrastructure to protect American businesses from many cyber attacks.

Pak Sahafat News agency- While the Russian operation in Ukraine is underway, another battle is taking place, a battle in the field of cyber.

The New York Times wrote in a report that it is a mistake to assume that such attacks will remain limited to Ukrainian targets.

US President Joe Biden has warned of cyber-attacks on vital US infrastructure, but US businesses are not ready for cyber warfare.

“Although Biden appointed the Department of Homeland Security to manage what he promised would be a decisive response to such aggression, it is not enough; “The US Department of Homeland Security has no legal authority to order the private sector to comply.”

More broadly, the federal government does not have the infrastructure to protect American businesses from many of these attacks, even if companies such as Microsoft warn of possible cyber attacks.

That the United States must resort to retaliatory threats is itself a problem.

A former US National Security Agency official says “As a former adviser to the National Security Agency, I have seen the scale and complexity of such attacks every day; “All of these attacks use the various branches of power at their disposal, including corporate and government companies, as well as intelligence agencies, to carry out attacks against American companies and citizens with all their might.”

The United States, however, lacks an organized response; Weekly reports of ransomware attacks and data breaches show that the United States has lost the battle; That is why US leaders need to rethink the current cyber defense system and come together around a centralized regulator to defend both US citizens and the private sector against current and future attacks.

The decentralized nature of the US government does not limit itself to combating foreign cyber threats. Government agencies manage cyber threats and regulations only in the areas they oversee; this is an inefficient and inappropriate way of dealing with an issue that affects the entire US economy.

Reiterating a number of specialized studies, the first US National Cyber Director says that the country needs a new approach that significantly changes the relationship between the public and private sectors.
