Unprecedented action in America; renaming a street to “Palestine Road”

Pak Sahafat – Shops, restaurants and offices in the South Patterson neighborhood of New Jersey are decorated with flags of Palestine and pictures of Jerusalem on the walls.

There are signs of the land of Palestine everywhere on store names, from the Jerusalem Pharmacy to the Nablus Confectionery and the Palestinian Barber Shop.

Patterson City Council has renamed a main street in Palestine to Palestine Day. City officials renamed the main street of the city, which consists of five blocks, “Palestinian Road” in the presence of thousands of Palestinians and Arabic speakers. The previous name of this street was Main Street.

Ala Abdul Aziz, a member of the city council, said: Many Palestinians living in the United States have chosen Patterson as their home, and this is how we cherish that choice.

Patterson City Council voted to rename the street Palestine in April to honor the large Palestinian community and their role in the community and the economy.

Among those invited to the street renaming ceremony were City Council Chairwoman Maritza Davila and Patterson Mayor Andie Sayegh.
