United Nations: 10,000 to 20,000 Sudanese fled to Chad

Pak Sahafat – The United Nations announced on Thursday that 10,000 to 20,000 Sudanese fled to Chad from the Darfur province in western Sudan following the increase in violence.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency from the Russian “Sputnik” news agency, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in a statement posted on its website, added that the majority of people who fled Sudan are women and children.

Stating that it is working closely with the government of Chad and its allies to assess the needs of these people and provide their common needs, this organization announced its support for the registration of new Sudanese refugees in the coming days.

From the point of view of this international organization, the basic needs of these people are mostly water, food, housing, health care, protection of children and prevention of sexual violence, because people who have to cross the border between Sudan and Chad face violence.

The statement of this organization states that the east of Chad hosts 400,000 Sudanese refugees and the new refugees will put additional pressure on this country to provide services.

Since last Saturday, Sudan has been the scene of heavy conflict and violence between the army and the rapid response forces of this country.

Abdul Fattah al-Barhan, the commander of the army, and “Mohammed Hamdan Deghlo” (Hamidati) each accused each other on Saturday that the forces of both sides in the south of Khartoum; the capital has attacked another near the sports complex.

In continuation of the violent developments in Sudan and while the ceasefire between the army and the Sudan Rapid Support Forces was extended from 18:00 on Wednesday and both sides had declared their adherence to it, the clashes have continued since the implementation of the ceasefire until now.

On Thursday, the clashes in the capital of Sudan around the headquarters of strategic institutions and the claims of both sides of the conflict about dominating each other’s positions continue as in the previous days.

The World Health Organization reported that 300 people have been killed and 2,600 injured since the start of the conflict in Sudan.
