UNICEF: Afghan girls should not be deprived of education

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has stated that all Afghan girls should have the right to school and education.

The United Nations Children’s Fund welcomed the reopening of boys ‘schools in Afghanistan and called for the reopening of girls’ schools in the country.

UNICEF said in a statement: It is important that all girls of all ages continue their education without delay, and that is why it is necessary for Afghan female teachers to resume their work.

UNICEF says the lack of education for girls is an opportunity for Afghanistan, adding: Even before the recent developments, 4.2 million Afghan children, 60 percent of whom were girls, were barred from continuing their education in the country.

The UN Children’s Fund noted that the organization will work with other active actors to educate Afghan girls and boys.

UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Four also expressed concern that girls were not allowed to go to school.

He added: “Girls cannot and should not be abandoned. It is very important that all girls, including older girls, can resume their education without further delay.”

UNICEF Afghanistan Director Sam Morte also took to Twitter to urge the Taliban to reopen girls’ schools.

The Taliban’s announcement of the reopening of boys’ schools has provoked mixed reactions.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in response to the failure to reopen girls’ schools: The interim government of the Taliban is consulting on instructions for reopening girls’ schools, and these schools will reopen soon.
