UN: The suffering of Syrian, Afghan and other refugees should not be forgotten

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has said that the plight of Syrian, Afghan and other refugees should not be forgotten when it comes to Ukrainian refugees.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees stating that “A large number of Ukrainian refugees have gone to Russia” said: “When we talk about Ukrainian refugees, we should not forget the suffering of Syrian, Afghan and other refugees.”

According to Al Jazeera, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grande said: “Government agencies and aid organizations in Ukraine are working in very difficult conditions.”

The UN High Commissioner added: “Civilian infrastructure in Ukraine must be protected, and failure to do so will only deepen the suffering.”

“The Ukrainians are trying to continue fleeing unless the conflict ends quickly,” he said: “There are 520,000 Ukrainian refugees in neighboring countries, and that number is growing by the hour. We must prepare for the asylum of 4 million Ukrainians.”

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine, which began years ago, have risen since last week with Western intervention. Most recently, the Russian president took reciprocal action against US intervention and signed a decree imposing sanctions on the United States and some other countries.
