UN: More than 10 million Ukrainians have been displaced since the start of the war

Pak Sahafat – A UN humanitarian representative has told the Security Council that more than 10 million people, including half of Ukraine’s children, have been displaced since the start of the war in Ukraine.

According to a Pak Sahafat News agency report from CNN on Wednesday, Joyce Massouya, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, added: Of these, 6.5 million people have been displaced inside Ukraine and another 3.9 million Ukrainians have sought refuge in other countries.

He added: Humanitarian organizations are concerned about the risk of trafficking as well as sexual violence, exploitation and abuse in Ukraine and the region. Hunters deceive Ukrainians seeking asylum with promises of relocation and resettlement.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine to allow progress in serious political talks.

The UN Secretary-General told reporters that he called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire to allow progress in serious political negotiations aimed at reaching a peace agreement in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter.

Guterres stated: I urge Martin Griffiths, the UN humanitarian coordinator around the world, to immediately consider a possible humanitarian ceasefire agreement with the parties involved in Ukraine.

He added: Since the start of the Russian invasion a month ago, the war has led to the futile killing of thousands, the displacement of 10 million people, mostly women and children, the systematic destruction of basic infrastructure and the dramatic rise in food and energy prices around the world.

Guttierez said I strongly urge the parties to this conflict and the international community in general to work with us in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and around the world to bring about peace.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region, criticizing the West’s indifference to Moscow’s security concerns.

Three days later, on Thursday, March 26, Putin launched a so-called “special operation” against Ukraine, turning tense Moscow-Kiev relations into a military confrontation. The conflict in Ukraine and the reaction to Russia’s action continue.
