U.S. senators approve the stay of the US embassy in occupied Jerusalem as part of an amendment to the anti-Corona budget bill.
The US Senate today (Friday) approved a plan under which the US embassy in occupied Palestine will remain in occupied Jerusalem.
According to the Jerusalem Post, US senators approved by 97 votes in favor and 3 against the amendment to the Covid 19 anti-epidemic budget, which states that the US embassy will remain in occupied Jerusalem.
The amendment, proposed by Republican Sen. Jim Einhoff, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Bill Hagerty, another fellow senator, seeks to make the US embassy in Jerusalem permanent.
Einhoff tweeted: “This amendment permanently closes the US Embassy in Jerusalem (occupied Jerusalem) and effectively prevents it from being reduced or relocated. This is an important message that we recognize Jerusalem (occupied Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel.”
The United States has vowed to support a two-state solution, with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken saying at a recent Senate hearing that the Biden administration will continue to maintain the US embassy in Jerusalem.
He had said that the Biden government had no intention of moving the US embassy from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, and confirmed that the United States recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the Zionist regime.
The United States held the relocation of its embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem on May 14, 2018. At least 60 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces on this day.
Former United States President Donald Trump had earlier (December 6, 2017) announced that his administration would recognize Jerusalem as the “capital of Israel.” He also announced that Washington would move its embassy to Jerusalem.
Trump’s move, which meant disregarding the Palestinians’ right to establish the capital of his future government in Jerusalem and rule in the east, has angered Muslims around the world.
