The US Congress has pledged to speed up the process of sending weapons to Taiwan

Pak Sahafat – A senior official of the US House of Representatives pledged to speed up the process of sending weapons to Taiwan and training its military forces.

According to the International group of Pak Sahafat news agency, Michael McCall, the chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the US House of Representatives, pledged today to speed up the process of sending weapons to Taiwan and training the country’s military forces.

These statements were made in response to the beginning of a three-day exercise of the Chinese army near Taiwan and the passage of 42 Chinese fighter planes through the country’s airspace.

In response to the meeting between Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen and US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the Chinese government started a three-day military exercise near the Taiwan border this Saturday.

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army announced in a statement that this exercise is a serious warning to Taiwan’s separatist forces and the conspiracy and sedition of foreign forces, and is a necessary measure to defend China’s national sovereignty and regional unity.

McCall, who heads the bipartisan delegation of the US to Taiwan, said at the lunch party hosted by the country’s president in Taipei, that the US delegation traveled to this country in order to fully support Taiwan and it is very important that these two democratic countries next to each other.

US Congressman: With the continuation of Biden’s presidency, we have to wait for the confrontation between China and Taiwan

Addressing the president of Taiwan, he clarified that as the chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the US Congress, I approve all military sales contracts to Taiwan, including the sale of weapons, and I promise you that we will deliver these weapons to you.

China considers any interaction between the US and Taiwan officials as a challenge to its sovereignty over the island and has reacted strongly to the previous meetings between the officials of the two sides.

In response to the visit of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan in August last year, Beijing conducted several large-scale drills, including firing missiles over Taiwan’s airspace.

In 1979, while officially establishing diplomatic relations with the Chinese government, the US severed ties with Taiwan in favor of China and ended the military treaty between the two countries. While the US insists on a “one China” policy, it does not endorse China’s claim to sovereignty over Taiwan and remains a key military supporter of Taipei.

Previously, two American officials had stated in February that Washington plans to increase the number of its troops to train Ukrainian military forces.

Reuters also reported in 2021 that a small group of US special operations forces were sent to a temporary base in the country to train Taiwan’s military.
