The United States is strengthening air bases on the island of Guam and Australia

The Wall Street Journal quoted defense officials as saying that the Pentagon plans to improve its military and infrastructure in Guam and Australia as part of its Global Force Review program.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Pentagon intends to expand and improve its air bases on the island of Guam and Australia in order to review US military resources around the world.

The revision plan, released in an unclassified summary on Monday, aims to strengthen the link between the United States’ vast military capabilities and the strategic priorities of President Joe Biden’s administration to counter China’s growing military power and use.

U.S. defense officials said the plan, known as the Global Situation Review, included decisions to improve airports and other infrastructure at U.S. bases in Guam and Australia, which would strengthen the deployment of fighter jets and bombers that were previously announced to be sent to the island.

While some details about the shift in military capabilities are confidential and others have already been announced, defense experts say the lack of a significant adjustment of US troops in Asia in the review reflects the challenges the United States is in rebalancing. It faces resources to counter China while maintaining its other so-called global commitments.

It faces resources to counter China while maintaining its other so-called global commitments.

The Wall Street Journal quoted a defense official as saying that the United States had faced a number of challenges in recent months, from a chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan to what Washington called a possible Russian military strike on Ukraine and militancy.

Another senior defense official, who was not named in the report, said the global outlook was fluid, but that the review had achieved some of its goals, particularly in the case of China.

Another Pentagon official said the military structure was evolving and needed further analysis before any significant changes could be made.

The revision plan was launched at the Pentagon earlier this year under Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and is one of several national security and defense policy plans expected to be unveiled by the Biden administration in the coming months.

Informed sources at the Pentagon said that the situation of US troops in the Middle East, Europe and Africa will continue to be analyzed. Afghanistan has undergone a separate inter-agency review, and cyber and nuclear capabilities are being explored under separate initiatives. A special review of China, many of the results of which are confidential, was completed earlier this year.

The sources also said that the improvement of the airport infrastructure mentioned in the summary of the review program will take place next year in Guam, which hosts a large navy and air force and thousands of US troops, and in Australia, where the Marines rotation will be established, will begin.

The two officials also said that both locations are key to Washington’s strategy against China. The Pentagon is also sending more ground and logistics troops to Australia and improving a range of infrastructure in Guam, including fuel and ammunition storage and other projects, the officials added.

The Wall Street Journal reports that news of the deployment of more strategic strategic bombers and advanced F-22 fighter jets to the island has already been reported in the media.

US action in this area is to counter China’s rise to power in the “Indo-Pacific” strategic region, which Washington, in addition to military options and strengthening in this region, especially in the South and East China Seas, as well as concluding arms deals with allies. The United States is inciting separatists in Beijing-controlled areas, including Taiwan and Hong Kong, in the region, such as the Agos Arms Treaty or the Quad Treaty.
