Guterres stated: Any attempt to weaken democratic institutions and processes will only deepen the crisis and delay the return of Myanmar to an inclusive country.

The UN Secretary-General reiterated his call on neighboring countries and other UN member states to urge Myanmar’s military leadership to adhere to inclusive political processes.

Guterres also reiterated his call for the immediate release of all prisoners, including President Win Myint and Aung San Suu Kyi, who have been “arbitrarily” detained.
