According to Pak Sahafat news agency, quoted by Reuters, Minoru Terada, the Minister of the Interior of Japan, resigned on Sunday due to recent financial scandals; Terada is the third cabinet minister to resign in less than a month, and it is the most severe blow to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who currently has little support.

Japan’s interior minister is said to have resigned after that, with some media reporting recently that Kishida was poised to fire him.

On Monday, Kishida appointed former foreign minister Takaki Matsumoto to replace Terada. After the appointment of Matsumoto, Kishida told reporters: The foundation of political commitment is public trust. As a politician, I must protect public trust by taking care of and strengthening my surroundings.

According to “Asahi” network, the latest polls show that only 30.5% of respondents support Kishida’s cabinet, which is a decrease of 2.6% compared to last month’s poll.

Terada is the third minister in Kishida’s cabinet to be dismissed in recent weeks. In mid-November, the Prime Minister of Japan dismissed the Minister of Justice, Yasuhiro Hanashi, from his position due to his controversial statements about death sentences. Also, Daishiro Yamagiwa, the Minister of Economic Revival of Japan, was also forced to resign at the end of October after the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
