The Pope stressed the need to continue the process of establishing an independent Palestinian state

Pak Sahafat- In a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Pope Francis stressed the need to continue talks to reach a solution to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

According to AFP, Abbas had a personal meeting with the pope and senior Catholic officials, during which the Vatican announced that during the meeting, the parties stressed the need to reactivate direct dialogue to reach a two-state solution with the help of the international community.

The Vatican also stated that Jerusalem should be considered by all as a place of confrontation, not conflict, and that the status of Jerusalem should preserve its global identity and value as a holy city for all three Abrahamic religions.

During his visit, Abbas also met with Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Italian President Sergio Matterla.

The Zionist regime’s attacks on the Gaza Strip in that conflict resulted in the martyrdom of 248 and the wounding of 1,900 people.
