The Guardian’s report of the prevalence of second and third jobs among Americans to meet expenses

Pak Sahafat – An English newspaper reported: Millions of Americans now work two or more jobs to make ends meet as global inflation and corporate price gouging have driven up the cost of food, gas, housing, health insurance and other necessities over the past year.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, quoted by the Guardian newspaper, Keshe Louise is an American worker who has two jobs and is now trying to find a third job to cover the $ 200 monthly rent increase for his apartment.

Louise said: I am always tired. I took a week off to donate plasma in exchange for money. I literally sell my blood to eat because I have no other choice.

He has been homeless for the past five years and was fired before for sleeping in his car.

Louise said: All my friends and family have multiple jobs. He said: Nothing is affordable and the barriers created to keep people in the cycle of poverty benefit the wealthy in society.

He added: “We are not living, we are barely surviving and we have no choice but to continue this work.”

More Americans have held two or more jobs over the past two decades, according to US Census data. Meanwhile, women are more likely than men to have multiple jobs, and multiple jobs are more common among low-wage workers.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 400,000 Americans work two full-time jobs.

In September 2022, 4.9 percent of the total of more than 164 million American workers, or more than 7.7 million workers, had two or more jobs.

An annual survey by the Federal Reserve Board found a higher number of workers in multiple jobs, at 16.4 percent in 2019, or about 26.5 million workers.

Many of these workers hold multiple jobs to make ends meet and often work more than 40 hours a week.
