Pak Sahafat – Egyptian Court of Appeals upheld the life sentence of imprisoned Akhwan-ul-Muslimeen leader Mohammed Badie.

According to Pak Sahafat News agency report from the Turkish Anatolian News Agency on Thursday morning, an Egyptian appeals court on Wednesday upheld the death sentences of Mohammed Badie, Mohammed al-Beltaji and Safwat Hejazi, leaders of the Egyptian Akhwan-ul-Muslimeen.

The verdicts are related to the case of violence in Bursaid province in 2013, in which five people were killed, and in 2015, the Egyptian criminal court found the leader of the Akhwan-ul-Muslimeen and 66 others guilty; however, the Akhwan-ul-Muslimeen did not accept the accusations against its members and protested against the verdict.

The Egyptian Court of Appeals was convened in 2020 after challenging the rulings issued by the Akhwan-ul-Muslimeen and reaffirmed the rulings; But for the second time and at the last opportunity, the group protested against the verdicts; however, the verdicts of the Akhwan-ul-Muslimeen leaders were confirmed in the trial on Wednesday.

Following the arrest of Mohammad Badie in 2013, the Akhwan-ul-Muslimeen named Mahmoud Ezzat as the group’s interim leader.

The Egyptian government considers the Akhwan-ul-Muslimeen a “terrorist group” and has declared its activities illegal after the military coup against the government of Mohamed Morsi.

Many members of this party have been arrested and imprisoned in the last few years. A number of its leaders have died in prison or in court.
