The discussion of banning weapons in the United States is heating up again

Pak Sahafat – After the recent deadly shootings in the United States, Democrats have been desperately seeking to revive the law banning weapons of war.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, the Guardian newspaper published a report in this regard and wrote: Gun control has come up again after recent deadly shootings during the Thanksgiving holiday, and congressional Democrats have called for a ban on assault weapons for ordinary people.

Connecticut Democratic Senator Chris Murphy told CNN: If the ban on assault weapons is passed, there will be fewer gun murders in this country. Armed killings cannot be erased by magic.

According to the Guardian, assault weapons were used during the shooting in Colorado, and various types of weapons were used in the shooting at the university and one of the Walmart stores in the state of Virginia.

According to Murphy, after the Arms Prohibition Act was passed in 1994, gun homicides dropped sharply for 10 years until the ban expired and the number of gun homicides spiked again.

The Democratic-dominated Congress passed the law in June this year to reinstate the ban. But this resolution is pending in the Senate and needs the vote of 60 senators, that is, the support of 10 Republican senators.

Biden is unable to control armed violence in America and promises to fight again

Expressing pessimism about the Republicans’ support for this resolution, Murphy told CNN: “It should be checked whether the Democrats can bring this figure as close to 60 as possible.”

According to the report of the NGO Archive of Armed Violence, for the third year in a row, this year (2022), America has seen more than 600 mass shootings annually, and by November 2022, about 609 mass shooting incidents have occurred in this country.

Recently, a shooting in a night club in the US state of Colorado left 5 dead and 18 injured. After that, 7 people died in a shooting at a Walmart chain store in the state of Virginia. As a result of the shooting in the parking lot of the University of Virginia, three people were killed and two were injured.

While US President Joe Biden has been unable to control armed violence in his country for nearly two years, he has again promised to deal with offensive weapons.

After seven people were killed in a Walmart store, he promised to work to limit assault weapons.

Biden told reporters during the Thanksgiving holiday while visiting a fire station in Nantucket, Massachusetts: Allowing semi-automatic weapons to be sold is disgusting.

The American president added: This issue has no social liberating value. There is no logic to it, except that it benefits the weapons manufacturers.
