The decline of British military power from the American point of view

Pak Sahafat – British defense sources revealed that a senior American general told the British defense minister privately that the country’s army is no longer considered a high-level fighting force.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, Sky News wrote in a report; British defense officials believe that the military capabilities of this country must be strengthened as soon as possible after the war in Ukraine; otherwise the army forces “will not be able to protect this country and its allies”.

The unnamed officials told Sky News that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak must “take urgent action in light of the growing security threat posed by Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin. This should include increasing the defense budget by at least £3 billion a year, halting plans to downsize the army and relaxing peacetime arms procurement rules.

This is while the shocking findings of Sky News show that if there is a war, the British armed forces will run out of ammunition “within a few days”; The country does not have the ability to defend its skies against the missile and drone attacks that Ukraine is enduring, and it will take five to 10 years for the military to field a combat division of 25,000 to 30,000 soldiers with tank, artillery, and helicopter support.

The findings of this English network also indicate; around 30% of British forces on high alert are reservists who are unable to mobilize within NATO’s time frame. Most of the British army’s armored vehicle fleet was built between 30 and 60 years ago, and a plan for their complete replacement has not yet been prepared.

Sky News wrote: After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, European powers such as France and Germany have announced plans to significantly increase defense spending. The European Union has even said that Putin is now at war with the West and NATO, but the British Prime Minister just wants to “fix” the problem.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced in 2020 that he would increase the country’s defense spending by 16 billion pounds, the highest figure since the end of the Cold War, but British defense officials told Sky News that rampant inflation and the depreciation of the pound.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, England has become an active player in this battle and by adopting anti-Russian positions, sending military weapons and imposing sanctions against Russia; it has fueled tensions and conflicts. This country has recently announced its agreement to send advanced Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine. This is while Patrick Sanders, the Chief of the General Staff of the British Army, stated in an unconventional admission that sending tanks and artillery equipment to Ukraine will temporarily weaken the army and reduce its ability to confront Russia.

He said: Providing these capabilities will make our army temporarily weaker, this cannot be denied.

According to this report, the war in Ukraine started after the West’s inattention to Moscow’s security concerns and the expansion of NATO forces to the proximity of Russia’s borders. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region, and three days later, he launched a military operation that he called “special operations” against Ukraine. In this way, the tense relations between Moscow and Kiev turned into a military confrontation.

Last September, the President of Russia announced his readiness to hold peace talks with Kiev and asked Ukraine to abandon hostilities. But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, under the influence of Western warmongers, said that he is ready to negotiate when another president comes to power in Russia.

The Kremlin spokesman says that Russia prefers a diplomatic way to resolve the Ukraine crisis, but will not give in to Western pressure. Dimitri Peskov stated in a speech last month: “The special military operation continues. Having said that, President Putin was, is and will be ready for negotiations. “Certainly, our preferred path to secure our interests is a peaceful diplomacy.”
