The critical situation of the Palestinians in the prisons of the Zionist regime

Pak Sahafat News Agency – Israeli prisoners are a common annoying experience for Palestinians; about one-fifth of the Palestinian population has been imprisoned at some point since the beginning of the occupation.

Since the Six-Day War in 1967, the Zionist regime has imprisoned more than 700,000 people; Most of these prisoners were Palestinians. Some died in custody, while others remain in prison.

According to Al-Jazeera, thousands of Palestinians are in “administrative detention” without being charged or even saying what crimes they are suspected of committing.

Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons live in appalling conditions and are subjected to cruel and inhumane treatment.

Human rights groups have documented various forms of physical and psychological abuse in Israeli prisons; Arbitrary beatings, overuse of solitary confinement and inhibition of family reunions.

The United Nations has concluded that the techniques used by the Shin Bet (Israeli Internal Security Service) during the interrogation of detainees constitute torture.

“The Israelis are doing this (imprisoning you) to transform you from a human being to a creature that is hardly alive,” said one Palestinian prisoner. “A forgotten person.”

In fact, Palestinian prisoners live in dark and crowded cells; every aspect of their existence is governed by a strict procedure; they face deprivation of physical liberty. Palestinian prisoners were initially deprived of pens and paper; Books were also banned.

However, there were some limitations; Zionist prison authorities allowed only approved texts in the library; many books were obtained in poor condition.

Thousands of Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli prisons; many are serving life sentences, and dozens are being held in “administrative detention.”
