Taliban: We are committed to educating girls while preserving Islamic values

The Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education, in a meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, stressed that the Taliban are committed to educating girls while preserving Islamic values.

According to the Pak Sahafat news agency, the Taliban Ministry of Higher Education announced that Minister of Higher Education Abdul Baqi Haqqani “Lotfollah Khairkhah” Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Osama Aziz, president of Kabul University, and Tariq Kamal, president of the Taliban Association of Private Universities and Higher Education Institutions, met with Deborah Lions, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan.

According to the statement, during the meeting, Haqqani briefed the UN Secretary-General on the Taliban’s policies and plans in the field of higher education, as well as the Ministry of Higher Education’s plans.

Emphasizing that the Taliban are committed to the education of boys and girls in accordance with Islamic and Afghan values and preserving them, he said that the flow of education in private universities is proof of this claim.

Referring to higher education in Afghanistan, the Minister of Higher Education asked the UN Representative to assist in this area.

The president of the Association of Private Universities and Institutions of Higher Education in Afghanistan also explained to Lions that after the Taliban came to power, a plan was submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education to prevent a mixed system, which was approved and is in the process of being implemented.
