Taliban: The possible US presence in the region is dangerous

A Taliban official warned that the establishment of military bases in the region by the United States and NATO would not be in the interests of Afghanistan or any other country.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, the Taliban have warned that establishing US and NATO military bases in neighboring countries would be dangerous for countries in the region.

Ahmadullah Waseek, the Taliban’s deputy spokesman, said powerful countries should not force countries in the region to give up military bases.

Waseek added: “The United States, NATO or any country that wants to have a military presence in the region by force, this is neither in the interest of Afghanistan nor in the interest of the region.”

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday called on Afghanistan’s neighbors not to provide any bases to the United States or NATO.

Russia’s foreign minister said without naming a specific country: “We urge Afghanistan’s neighbors not to allow NATO or US troops to enter their territories. NATO and the United States want to be present in these territories after leaving Afghanistan.”

On the other hand, some political and military experts do not consider the establishment of military bases in the region to be in Afghanistan’s interest.

The remarks come amid earlier reports of US use of Pakistani airspace, but Islamabad has denied the allegations.

Meanwhile, Reuters reports quoting the Tajik parliament that China intends to finance the establishment of a military base for Tajik special police forces near the Afghan-Tajik border.
