Southern Yemeni Transitional Council militants attack several ministries in Aden

Militants from the UAE-affiliated group Al-Majlisi al-Anqali al-Janubi attacked several government buildings of the resigned Yemeni government in the southern city of Aden.

Armed groups affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (Yemeni Southern Transitional Council) attacked the buildings of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Education, Justice and several government institutions in the city of Aden, the interim capital of ousted Mansour Hadi’s government, on Sunday.

A security unit of the Southern Transitional Council also attacked a courthouse in Aden. These gunmen tried to create an atmosphere of terror by firing on the employees, and they said that the purpose of their work was to demand benefits from these institutions.

According to Al-Jazeera, the resigned Yemeni government issued a statement in response to the move by the Transitional Council militants: “We condemn the actions of armed groups in attacking the buildings of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education and Justice in Aden.”

“All security services should be organized under the banner of the Interior Ministry,” the statement said, referring to efforts to thwart an agreement on a new government.

The new government of ousted Mansour Hadi’s government was signed on December 29, 2019 in Riyadh following a lengthy dispute over the Riyadh agreement between the Southern Transitional Council and the government of ousted Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi.
