Some 300 Afghan civilians are killed by British troops

New figures show that the British military is linked to the deaths of 86 children and more than 200 adult civilians during the Afghan conflict, with an average pay of just 2,380 pounds per casualty.

According to the Pak Sahafat quoted from British newspaper “Guardian”, this information was recorded in the lists related to the compensation of the British Ministry of Defense, which was obtained after a series of requests for freedom of information. The youngest recorded civilian victim was reportedly three years old.

According to the report, one of the most serious incidents mentioned in the records was the awarding of 4,233.60 Pounds to a family following the killing of its four children, who were mistakenly shot and killed in an accident in December 2009.

These figures show that some payments amounted to less than a few hundred pounds. In February 2008, for example, one family received 104.17 Pounds in loss and damage to property in Helmand province, while another family paid 586.42 Pounds for the death of their 10-year-old son in December 2009.

The data was compiled by the British Institute for Action against Armed Violence (AOAV), which reviewed the reports as Western troops withdrew from Afghanistan last month.

The focus on last month’s civilian drone strike in Kabul killed 10 civilians, including seven children, and not ISIS, which was initially claimed, has shifted the focus to civilian casualties in Afghanistan.

In English reports, many incidents are recorded only briefly. The British Institute estimates that 20,390 civilians were killed or wounded during the US-initiated 20-year war in Afghanistan – although one third were killed by the Taliban and other insurgents. During this period, 457 British soldiers were killed.
