Russian Senator: The 20-year US military operation in Afghanistan was completely fruitless

A senior Russian senator compared the end of the US military operation in Afghanistan to the withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam, saying their 20-year military operation in Afghanistan was completely meaningless and fruitless.

Alexei Pushkov, a senior member of the Russian Federation Senate Intelligence Committee, compared the end of the US military operation in Afghanistan to the withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam, noting that the 20-year US military operation in Afghanistan was completely meaningless and fruitless.

The senior senator wrote in a Twitter message: In the United States, after the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam in 1975, the so-called “Vietnam Syndrome” began, which deeply affected and divided American society. The United States now has the “Afghanistan Syndrome.” Its most important feature is the loss of American faith in military power and the impact of its actions. “Of course, this time around, the loss of confidence in US military action is not limited to the United States and is seen around the world.”

Alexei Pushkov also called the 20-year US military operation in Afghanistan meaningless and fruitless. According to him, the flight of the last US military plane from Kabul marked the beginning of a “new round of sharp criticism” of the country’s policy and the actions of the military in Afghanistan, as well as the decision of Democratic President Joe Biden to withdraw US troops.

“According to the Americans themselves, more than $ 2 trillion has been spent on military operations in Afghanistan,” he said: “In contemporary American history, such a geopolitical calculation is unparalleled, and there is no war more meaningless and ineffective than this military operation.”

On Monday, the official representative of the Taliban movement announced that all foreign troops had left Afghanistan and that the whole country was now under the control of Taliban forces.

The Pentagon also approved the flight of the last aircraft carrying US troops from Kabul.
