Criticizing the US approach to imposing illegal sanctions on countries, Russia’s ambassador to India said Moscow and New Delhi were living up to their commitments on the S-400 missile system.
Russia’s ambassador to India, Nikolai Kudashev, said on Wednesday that Russia and India were committed to meeting the timetable and other commitments in the midst of fears of possible US sanctions against New Delhi over the purchase of Russian-made weapons, including the S-400 missile defense system.
Russia’s ambassador to India, Nikolai Kodashev, said Russia and India do not recognize bilateral sanctions because they are illegal and unjust instruments of pressure, according to the Van India website.
During a visit to India last month, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said he had not discussed with US Secretary of Defense the possibility of US sanctions against India over the S-400 deal with Russia because the missiles had not been sent. At the same time, Austin called on all US allies and partners to refrain from buying Russian equipment, which may include US sanctions.
Kodashev said: “Both sides are committed to the timetable and other commitments. “This contract will be successful.”
He also said that the world order should be free of unilateral approaches, illegal sanctions, double standards and interference in the internal affairs of independent countries.
In October 2018, India issued a $ 5 billion contract to purchase five firearms from S-400 air defense missile systems, despite warnings from former President Donald Trump’s administration that advancing the deal could lead to US sanctions.
This system is known as the most advanced surface-to-air missile defense system. Following US sanctions against Turkey, there are concerns that Washington may impose similar sanctions on India. Russia is expected to send S-400 missiles to India later this year.
