Russia put 60 Canadians on the sanctions list

Pak Sahafat – In retaliation against Canada’s sanctions, Russia has banned the entry of 60 citizens of this country into its territory.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency from TASS news agency, Moscow reported that the bans were imposed in retaliation for Canada’s sanctions against Russian figures, including journalists and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, in June and July.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the list includes figures known for malicious activity against Russia and its traditional values.

Russia also accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government of targeting the insult.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, more retaliatory measures from Russia will be announced in the near future.

Since the beginning of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine, the United States, Canada, Great Britain, the European Union, Japan, Australia and several other countries have imposed financial sanctions on Moscow. The European Union has frozen more than 30 billion dollars of assets of wealthy Russians in these countries, which are worth 7 billion dollars.

Also, according to the announcement of the White House, the US Treasury has embargoed and blocked ships and planes worth more than one billion dollars belonging to people believed to have close ties to the Kremlin.

On February 21, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin, criticizing the West’s indifference to Moscow’s security concerns, recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region.

Three days later, on Thursday, February 24, Putin launched a military operation against Ukraine, which he called a “special operation”, thus turning the tense Moscow-Kiev relationship into a military confrontation.

The war in Ukraine and the reactions to Russia’s actions continue.
