Russia: America has not yet issued a visa for Lavrov’s visit to the United Nations

Pak Sahafat – Moscow announced on Friday night that the United States has not yet issued the visa of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency from Reuters, Russia has requested 56 visas for its foreign minister and accompanying delegation to travel to New York and participate in the annual meeting of world leaders, but has not yet received any visas for its officials.

On the other hand, Sergei Ryabkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said that Moscow will take the necessary practical measures in response to the visa restrictions of European countries.

At the same time, he added that a deal like this would not be the best option.

The spokesperson of the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that his country will follow this issue seriously and that the visa issuance file is confidential according to US law.

According to the 1947 agreement on the United Nations, the United States is committed to generally allow foreign diplomats to enter the United Nations, while Washington claims that it has the possibility to waive the issuance of visas for various reasons such as security.
