“Rai Al-Yawm” revelation in connection with the explosion of the port of Beirut

Despite the Lebanese authorities’ reluctance to make public the results of the investigation into the explosion of the Beirut port, a London electronic newspaper, citing informed sources, revealed details of the investigation into the blast.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency International Group, the electronic newspaper “Rai Al-Youm” on Thursday evening, quoting special sources, revealed details about last year’s explosion in the port of Beirut.

Rai Al-Youm noted at the beginning of his report that investigations into the Beirut bombing have been shrouded in secrecy since August 4, 2020, and Lebanese judicial officials have insisted that no details of the investigation be made public; details that are supposed to answer in detail the questions that have occupied the public opinion of this country.

The London-based newspaper further notes that Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of the Lebanese Hezbollah Movement, has called for the release of the results of the investigation to the public in three speeches since the bombing of the port of Beirut until today, and addressed the judge: “If you do not want to publish the investigation for the people, at least gather the families of the victims and tell them how their children were martyred.”

Adding: “Hezbollah’s secretary general may have doubted that the results of technical investigations into the route of the ship [carrying ammonium nitrate] and the owner of the nitrate would lead to the condemnation of some figures and parties in the region and that Lebanese officials could not make it clear.”

Rai Al-Youm added that no one paid attention to the demands of the Hezbollah secretary general and the results of the investigation remained hidden, and “Tariq Bitar”, the judge in the Beirut port bombing case, and “Fadi Swan”, the judge before him, continued their duties.

The sources revealed that the money for the ship was paid from a bank located in one of the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, whose main branch is located in Switzerland.

The unnamed sources added that individuals affiliated with Al-Mustaqbal’s Saad al-Hariri party had shipped the cargo to the port of Beirut. However, they said that this action was taken without informing Saad Al-Hariri.

The sources added that the cargo was most likely stored in the port of Beirut and then sent from there to armed opposition groups stationed on the Syrian-Lebanese border.

It is further possible that the transfer of nitrate has stopped after the military operation of the Lebanese army, the resistance and the Syrian army, and the expulsion of the mentioned armed groups from the region.

The sources added that after the operation, some materials remained in warehouse No. 12 in Beirut port and exploded near the warehouse due to welding and fire.

According to these sources, the welding hypothesis has been cited in the investigation as the most logical cause for the explosion in the port of Beirut.

On the other hand, Rai Al-Youm reported that there is no evidence that the Lebanese Hezbollah movement may be involved in the process of transferring ammonium nitrate and storing it.

The newspaper concluded that the judge in the case intended to declare the case closed and issue a suspicious verdict in this regard; but the prosecution has insisted that the statements of former President Michel Suleiman and former Lebanese Prime Minister Tamim Salam be heard before the verdict is handed down.

Lebanon witnessed a massive explosion on the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020; The blast killed at least 200 people and injured 6,500.
