Paying $ 590 million ransom to hackers in the US in the first six months of 2021

The results of a new US Treasury report show that victims of hacking and cyber attacks paid about $ 590 million in ransom to hackers in the first six months of this year.

According to the international group of Pak Sahafat news agency, quoting the information base of the Congress, the US Treasury Department announced on Friday that the victims of cyber and hacker attacks in the first six months of 2021 have paid about $ 590 million in ransom to hackers.

From January to the end of June, more than 450 ransom payments were reported to the US Treasury. This is while the number of suspicious cyber activities has increased by 30% compared to last year. The total ransom paid by the victims of cyber attacks in 2020 reached $ 416 million.

According to the report, the US Treasury Department has warned that “malware attacks aimed at ransom are a growing threat to the US financial sector and businesses.”
