Palestinian and Islamic Jihad delegations travel to Moscow

A high-level delegation from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement arrived in Moscow today, and a delegation from Hamas is scheduled to travel to Russia soon.

Today (Monday, February 1), a high-level delegation from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, led by Ziad al-Nakhala, traveled to Moscow to meet with Russian officials about the latest developments in Palestine.

The trip was made at the invitation of the Russian Foreign Ministry to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian cause and related cases, the Palestine Today news website reported.

According to the report, the delegation is to discuss bilateral relations in order to serve the Palestinian people, gain international support for the national and legal rights of the Palestinian people, and ways to counter the occupiers’ policies against the Palestinian people and land, including settlement, siege and repression.

Al-Mayadin news website also published the news of the visit of a high-ranking delegation of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement to Moscow, saying that a high-ranking delegation from Hamas is also going to visit Moscow, and “Musa Abu Marzouq”, a member of the movement’s political bureau, heads the delegation.

He said: “Islamic Jihad from the very beginning of talking about the presidential decree for holding parliamentary and presidential elections announced that the gateway to reform the situation in Palestine is not only in holding elections but also in national participation and preparing the ground for gaining credit for the national project.”

Al-Battash added: The Secretary General of the Islamic Jihad Movement also demanded an agreement on the national political program and everyone’s commitment to it. This program is implemented either by agreement or by election. Our position on this process will be announced after the next dialogue session in Cairo. In other words, no official statement or position has been issued until then.

The head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, set a date for parliamentary, presidential and national council elections in late December, and announced in a decree that parliamentary elections would be held on May 22, 2021, and the presidential election on July 31. And the National Assembly will be held on August 31.
