Norway workers strike to protest wages

Pak Sahafat – Major trade unions in Norway announced that approximately 25,000 private sector workers will go on strike from Monday to protest against low wages.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, citing Reuters, this strike affects industrial sectors such as construction, shipping and production, but the oil and gas sector does not participate in this strike.

Another 16,000 workers are expected to join the strike from April 21. If the Norwegian government and the trade unions do not reach an agreement on increasing wages, it is possible that about 200 thousand workers will go on strike.

The “Norwegian Trade Union Confederation” on behalf of its 185,000 members and the “Recreational Union Confederation” on behalf of 16,000 workers are negotiating with the government, but these negotiations have not yielded results so far.

Labor unions say that over the past two years, the price of consumables has risen rapidly and wages should rise accordingly.

Inflation growth in Norway is expected to reach 4.9 percent this year, so unions are demanding at least a five percent increase in wages.
