North Korea’s hypocrisy and double standards on the Korean Peninsula have halted nuclear talks between Pyongyang and Washington, the official North Korean news agency reported.
North Korea on Friday accused the United States of taking a dual stance on the Korean Peninsula, calling its hypocrisy an obstacle to the progress of nuclear talks.
According to the website of France 24, the official North Korean news agency (KCNA), in a report, condemned the dual behavior of the United States in protesting Pyongyang’s missile tests and defending South Korea’s missile test.
“This behavior is the exact reason behind the suspension of talks between the United States and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (official name of North Korea),” the official North Korean news agency added.
Following North Korea’s missile test on Wednesday, the country’s official news agency reported details of the missile test, the missiles fired by North Korea were a test of a “new train-based missile system” designed as a potential counterattack against any force that poses a threat to North Korea.
According to Reuters South Korean and Japanese officials announced on Wednesday that, two North Korean ballistic missiles were fired just days after Pyongyang tested a cruise missile. Analysts said the cruise missile may have nuclear capabilities.
According to Fars, shortly after the North Korean missile test, Seoul also announced on Wednesday that it had successfully fired a ballistic missile from a submarine.
The South Korean government says it has successfully launched an indigenous ballistic missile from a submarine to become the seventh country in the world to achieve this capability.
Reacting to North Korea’s recent missile tests, US State Department spokesman John Kirby on Wednesday evening claimed that Pyongyang’s firing of two short-range missiles was a “clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions.”
