National Interest: The Second Civil War has begun in America

Pak Sahafat – The National Interest website wrote: Individual acts of violence carried out by lone gunmen and extreme right-wing groups are part of a larger movement of domestic terrorism, which has a combination of the structure of an increasing civil war, and indicates the beginning of the second civil war in the United States.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report on Sunday, National Interest added: Protests and counter-protests, armed violence caused by white supremacy and far-right political extremists have taken to the streets, classrooms and social media. This rise in extremism is detrimental to individuals in communities large and small.

“Barbara Walter,” a senior expert on political violence, wrote in an article titled “How Civil War or Civil War Begins” in the New York Times newspaper: No one wants to believe that democracy is declining or headed for war. But some assessments show that the second civil war has begun in America.

He said that until this country does not understand this issue and does not take this threat seriously, the Americans will not be able to solve it.

“American Civil War II” is a term used by some experts to reclassify periods of significant political violence in the United States as “Civil War” or, more commonly, to discuss the possibility of a future civil war.

The American Civil War (April 12, 1861 – May 9, 1865) was a civil war in the United States that took place between the governments supporting the federal union (called the Union) and the southern states that voted to secede from the United States and form the Confederate States of America. The main cause of the war was the slavery situation, especially the expansion of slavery to the territories newly acquired as a result of the American-Mexico war.

In 2021, the Anti-Defamation League reported that domestic terrorism in the United States had killed at least 29 people in 19 separate incidents.

The Guardian: How close is America to civil war?

All but three of these murders, motivated by grievances such as national identity and the “Great Replacement” theory, were committed by right-wing extremists.

People who believe in the Great Replacement Theory believe that there is a conspiracy to reduce white influence in America and other Western countries.

These figures may seem relatively small compared to the population of more than 300 million in the United States. But when compared to an academic benchmark for civil war, it’s troubling.

The Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP), an authoritative source on armed conflict, defines civil war and unilateral violence as the deliberate use of armed force by any formally organized group that results in at least twenty-five war-related deaths in a year.

A look at the program’s map of North America shows events such as the 9/11 attacks and extralegal cartel violence, and its emphasis on organized groups such as Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and the Sinaloa cartel (one of the most powerful organized crime groups).

The report notes that the data does not include individual attacks such as the Buffalo supermarket massacre, the South Carolina church attack, and other individual attacks.

Instead of looking at the potential for civil war only through the lens of official armed groups, American politicians should emphasize the increasing number of murders in America at the hands of decentralized white supremacist movements, ultra-conservative politics, and domestic terrorism.

The report concluded that existing patterns show signs of insurgency that should be identified and addressed outside of existing criteria and definitions for civil war. It can be said that the Second American Civil War has already begun.
