Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced to four years in prison

Suu Kyi, 77, has been detained since his government’s army generals overthrew him in a coup on February 1 last year.

Myanmar’s ousted leader has since faced a series of charges including breaching the Official Secrets Act, corruption and election fraud, all of which could face decades in prison if convicted.

Since the beginning of the coup, Myanmar has been in turmoil, with the spread of conflicts and the suppression of peaceful street protests in the cities of the Southeast Asian country.

The army of this country stated that the reason for the coup was fraud in the elections in November 2020. However, the monitoring groups announced that they did not find evidence of widespread fraud in the elections.
