Moscow: Iran’s support is crucial for peace in Afghanistan

The Russian Defense Minister stated that peace and stability in Afghanistan would not be possible without the support of the Islamic Republic and Pakistan.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stressed yesterday (Wednesday) that peace and stability in Afghanistan would not be possible without the support of Iran and Pakistan.

Speaking at the 9th Moscow International Security Conference yesterday, the Russian Defense Minister stressed that confronting and addressing the situation in Afghanistan requires the attention of its neighbors and international organizations.

The Russian defense official stressed that in the past two decades, US and NATO forces have failed to achieve significant results in Afghanistan.

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, speaking at the summit, called on Russia, China, Pakistan and other countries in the region to increase support for the Afghan peace process.

He stated that the people of Afghanistan will determine the sustainable future of this country, but without the help of world powers, including Russia, this would not be possible.

Referring to Iran’s role in helping bring peace to Afghanistan, Karzai said he believed that the participation of Russia, China and Pakistan would play an important role in achieving the goal of peace, and “we hope that Iran will join the process.”
