Japan’s double vision; Silence against America’s nuclear crime, warning against Russia’s nuclear power

Pak Sahafat – Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, in his speech at the UN General Assembly, referring to the disaster of the atomic attack on Hiroshima and without mentioning which country committed this human tragedy, referred to what he called “the possibility of a nuclear threat from Russia in the Ukraine war.”

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report on Wednesday, quoting from “Kyudon News” news agency, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida emphasized the importance of the international order based on rules in the midst of the Ukraine war and criticized Russia for threatening to use nuclear weapons in the ongoing conflict.

Referring to the disaster of the atomic attack on Hiroshima in 1945, which was carried out by the United States and is considered the only use of atomic weapons against humans in the history of the world, without criticizing the United States as the direct cause of this human disaster, he expressed concern and criticized the possibility of a nuclear threat from Russia in the Ukraine war.

In his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Kishida added: It is vital to reform the global structure by taking concrete steps to restore the credibility of the Security Council after Russia, as a permanent member of the body with veto power, attacked its neighbor.

He, who is the first Japanese official to speak at the UN General Assembly since 2019, called Russia’s attack on Ukraine a cause for weakening the “foundation of international order” included in the UN Charter.

The Prime Minister of Japan further emphasized: Now is the time to return to the ideas and principles of the Charter and unite our strength and wisdom to ensure a rules-based international order. He, who is also a representative of the Hiroshima constituency, which was the target of atomic bombing by America at the end of World War II, considered Moscow’s nuclear blackmail as a serious threat to the peace and security of the international community and called it unacceptable.

In his speech, Kishida also described any attempt to open up the country as unforgivable by force and coercion, using a phrase often used by Tokyo in open criticism of Beijing’s actions in the East and South China Seas.

This Japanese official asked other world leaders to use the upcoming meeting of the UN General Assembly, which is planned for 2024, in order to reform the world organization.

Japan has long expressed its desire to become a permanent member of the reformed Security Council. In June (June), for the twelfth time, this country won the non-permanent seat of 15 members of the Security Council, whose two-year term is supposed to start from January.
