Ilhan Omar: Some Republicans do not appreciate the presence of a Muslim in the Congress

Pak Sahafat – Ilhan Omar, a member of the US House of Representatives, said: Some Republicans do not appreciate the presence of a Muslim in the US Congress.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, quoted by Hill newspaper, Ilhan Omar said on Sunday (local time) in response to questions about Kevin McCarthy’s efforts to prevent him from continuing in the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of Representatives: People like McCarthy agree with the spread of Islamophobia.

He added: You remember when former US President Donald Trump came into my state and said, “Muslims and Somali refugees are infiltrating our country,” or when (Rep.) Loren Bobert called me a “terrorist.”

Ilhan Omar stressed that these people are in favor of spreading Islamophobia and emphasized: They do not agree with having the voice of a Muslim in the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament.

According to The Hill, McCarthy is trying to block Ilhan Omar (who is the first female Somali-American and one of only two Muslim women in the U.S. Congress) to serve on the US House Foreign Relations Committee.

He, who has been accused of making anti-Semitic comments regarding America’s support for Israel, said: “I may have used words at that time that I did not know would be considered anti-Semitic.”
