According to the Guardian, a poll conducted by the Union for Democracies Foundation found that among 50,000 people in 53 countries, in “less democratic” countries, citizens were satisfied with the government’s response to the corona outbreak.
Citizens’ satisfaction with the government’s response to the corona outbreak in “more democratic” countries has risen to 51 percent. In Asian countries, the rate was 76 percent.
According to a similar poll last year, citizen satisfaction in less democratic and more democratic countries was almost equal to about 70 percent.
On the other hand, the results of the poll showed that 44% of the participants believe that the United States is a threat to democracy in their country. Washington, meanwhile, claims to be at the forefront of protecting democracy in the world.
Despite widespread propaganda and accusations by Western governments against Beijing and Moscow, the figure was 38 percent for China and 28 percent for Russia.
Inequality is generally considered to be the greatest threat to global democracy, the Guardian wrote, but in the United States, in addition to this factor, the over-empowerment of large technology companies is a major challenge.
The newspaper added that since last year, the US threat to democracy in the world has increased by 14%, with the highest rates in Germany (20% increase) and China (16% increase).
Eighty-one percent of those polled also said they care about democracy in their country, but only about half, or 53 percent (even in Europe), believe democracy is in place.
In addition, the results of the survey showed that, in the opinion of 64% of people in different countries of the world, economic inequality is the biggest threat to democracy.
