French protesters once again came to the streets in large numbers

Pak Sahafat – For the 11th time in the last three months, the people of France came to the streets in protest against the Emmanuel Macron government’s plan to increase the retirement age.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency from the Associated Press news agency, the protests in Paris on Thursday disrupted traffic and the police used tear gas in this city and other cities to disperse the protesters.

Negotiations between trade union leaders and the French prime minister ended without any progress on Wednesday, prompting a massive return of protesters to the streets.

However, the number of strikers, especially in the transport sector, seems to have decreased since the beginning of the protest movement in January.

The French Ministry of Education also claims that less than 8% of teachers went on strike. However, Total’s oil refinery in Gonferville-Lorche is still closed.

Amendments to the pension law and the widespread protest against it are considered to be the most important challenges of the second term of Macron’s presidency. His government approved these reforms by resorting to legal means without regular voting in the Senate and the National Assembly, and this increased the anger of political groups opposed to the government and the people.
