Discovery and destruction of a new ISIS camp deep in the Anbar desert of Iraq

A joint force of the Iraqi Army and National Security Intelligence Service destroyed an ISIS military camp deep in the al-Rutba desert while identifying it.

The Iraqi Al-Alam Al-Amni media group (close to the army) announced on Monday the discovery of an ISIS camp deep in the Al-Rutba desert in Anbar province in western Iraq.

A statement from Al-Alam Al-Amni, a copy of which was published on Al-Ma’loumeh news website, stated that a joint force of the Iraqi Army’s 53rd Infantry Brigade Intelligence Group and a group of the Iraqi National Security Intelligence Service carried out their mission after identifying accurate information about the existence of an ISIL military base in the northeastern city of Al-Rutba.

According to the report, the military camp consisted of two parts. One trench was dug leading to two rooms and the other was a room. Inside the rooms were cooking utensils, an oven, a buried freezer, eight 81mm mortar rounds, 200 12.7 machine guns, a 30-liter gallon containing the dangerous substance C4, and improvised explosive devices.

The statement said that engineering neutralization teams defused and detonated the explosives under their control.

He added that in the operation, the new headquarters of ISIL in the western desert of Anbar in the “Wadi al-Mulsi” area, along with seven headquarters established by the terrorist group, were destroyed. Explosive packages, drugs and financial documents were found inside the headquarters.

Mosleh noted that the operation thwarted their plan to return to the Anbar desert and their criminal plans. The operation broke the back of ISIS because terrorists had been building the headquarters for several months.

The al-Hashd commander concluded by stating that ISIL elements intended to carry out criminal operations wearing the uniform of security forces, but their plan also failed.
