Damascus: Britain and the European Union seek to reduce the pressure on terrorists

The Syrian Foreign Ministry described the provocative policies of Britain and the European Union regarding the situation in Deraa as a clear attempt to reduce the pressure on terrorists.

According to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA), an official source in the Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the provocative and hypocritical policies of Britain and the European Union regarding the situation in Daraa province and stressed that these policies are an unsuccessful and obvious attempt to reduce the pressure on terrorists in this province.

He added: Syria has paid close attention to examining the situation in the southern region through dialogue, while terrorist groups continue to work to destabilize the region and prevent any agreement.

The source further stated: The Syrian Arab Republic emphasizes that such false attacks and accusations will not discourage it from continuing the fight against terrorism and liberating the lands, and restoring security and stability to all parts of the country.

Following the Syrian army’s operation against armed terrorists based in the southern city of Deraa, the two sides agreed on a 48-hour ceasefire mediated by Russia.

Days after the agreement, terrorists targeted a Syrian army vehicle in Daraa.

Armed elements in Deraa also violated the agreement with the Syrian army and attacked army positions and checkpoints, firing mortars into the surrounding areas.

The area remained in the hands of the opposition during a military cleansing operation several years ago under a compromise agreement, provided the ceasefire was observed and the weapons were handed over to the government, which the opposition refused to comply with.

According to reports, the Syrian army is determined to change the rules of the game in Daraa and will never be satisfied with less than complete stability in the region, and to end the assassinations, instability and movements of the armed groups, and not to escalate the situation whenever they want.
