Complaints from Paris over arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the UAE

Two NGOs have stated that they have filed a lawsuit in a Paris court seeking details of the weapons sold to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

According to a report of Pak Sahafat news agency quoted by Monte Carlo Radio Amnesty International’s representative office in France and the European Center for Fundamental Rights and Human Rights said in a statement on Thursday evening that French customs had refused to release documents related to arms deals related to the Yemeni war.

Following the rejection of this request, the two organizations filed a complaint in this regard and submitted it to the Paris court.

According to the report, the two organizations expressed concern about the use of French weapons in the Yemeni war, noting that the Disclosure Research Company was also one of the complainants, as stated in part in the statement: “Lack of transparency is the main obstacle to parliamentary, judicial and democratic oversight of France’s arms exports.”

Al-Khaleej Online also reported that the statement warned of the significant dangers of using French weapons in violation of human rights against Yemeni civilians.

According to the report, part of the statement reads: “If Paris refuses to disclose documents related to arms sales, it has violated the right of public opinion to be informed of controversial issues.”

The statement also said that in addition to the tanks that France sold to the UAE in the 1990s, 70 French fighter jets were used in the war in Yemen at the same time.

Saudi Arabia, at the head of an Arab coalition backed by the United States, has launched a military aggression against Yemen and imposed a land, air and sea blockade on April 26, 2015, claiming that it was trying to bring the resigned Yemeni president back to power.

This military aggression has not achieved any of the goals of the Saudi coalition and has only been accompanied by the killing and wounding of tens of thousands of Yemenis, the displacement of millions of people, the destruction of the country’s infrastructure and the spread of famine and infectious diseases.
