According to Pak Sahafat International Group, quoted by Chinese media, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jang Joon, attended a ministerial meeting of the Friends of the United Nations Charter in New York on Thursday, September 23rd, and called for a strong defense of the UN Charter and a real commitment to multilateralism.
“Jang called the UN Charter a sign of the international community’s determination to avoid war and the mainstay of contemporary international relations,” and said: As the first signatory to this Charter in the last 50 years, China has always defended the actions and principles of the UN Charter with practical measures, and has always been a builder of world peace, a participant in global development, a preserver of international order and a provider.
Noting that “The world is also facing a corona epidemic in the face of unprecedented changes in the last hundred years,” he said: At this particular juncture, we must defend our “Charter of the United Nations” more strongly than in the past, and strengthen our solidarity and cooperation within the framework of the United Nations to meet the threats and challenges facing the world.
He stressed, China seeks to work with other relevant parties to promote the international community’s implementation of its obligations under the UN Charter and the implementation of the process of multilateralism, and jointly pursue an international equation centered on the United Nations and an international order based on international law.
The Chinese official concluded by emphasizing that his country would support the role of the United Nations as a key platform for all countries to safeguard security, share development achievements, and determine the common destiny of the world.
