Pak Sahafat – Mao Ning, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, expressed his opposition to the escalation of military relations between the US and Taiwan authorities and warned that the US is turning Taiwan into a powder keg.
According to Pak Sahafat News Agency from Xinhua news agency, Mao made the comments at a press conference in Beijing on Friday evening when asked about a delegation of 25 US arms dealers who have traveled to Taiwan and held a defense summit with officials from Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Mao emphasized that selling American weapons to the government of Taiwan seriously violates the principle of one China and endangers the relationship between China and the United States.

Pointing out that recently the United States and Taiwan authorities have increased their military relations, he said: the visit of arms dealers and the so-called American Defense Association is another proof that the United States is turning Taiwan into a powder keg, which is an issue for the compatriots.
The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry added: “The DPP officials should listen to the voices of the protesting Taiwanese people and immediately stop trading the fundamental interests of our Taiwanese compatriots for selfish interests.”
Mao continued: We once again ask the United States to adhere to the principle of one China and the three joint statements of China and the United States, to stop arms sales and military contact with Taiwan, and to avoid factors that can cause tension in the Taiwan Strait.
Emphasizing that the Chinese side is ready to take strong and decisive measures to resolutely defend its sovereignty and security interests, he added: Any foreign force that interferes in China’s internal affairs and undermines peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait will bear the consequences.
