According to local reports 32 people were shot and four were killed in Chicago, which is one of the most violent days of 2021.
Three children were injured in Thursday’s shooting, one of whom was a 1-month-old girl who was injured in a mass shooting.
Meanwhile Police Chief Brown told a news conference: “In June 2021, Chicago experienced 78 homicides, a 20 percent decrease from June 2020.”
Despite this claim, 330 homicides have been recorded in Chicago in 2021.
Continuing his efforts to downplay the violence during the conference, Brown said shooting incidents in May had dropped by 13 percent.
But the city has seen a 12 percent increase in total shootings so far this year which has increased from 1692 to 1892.
This year’s shootings also show a 53 percent increase compared to the number of shootings that occurred in the same period in 2019 (1234). In all, 14 Chicago neighborhoods have seen an increase in homicides this year.
In a shooting Thursday, three male suspects in a black SUV shot seven people in the head, including a 1-month-old baby.
