British publication: Ten European countries have circumvented arms sanctions against Russia

Pak Sahafat – A British newspaper has revealed that ten European countries, including France, Germany and Italy, have exported hundreds of millions of pounds of weapons to Russia and circumvented EU sanctions after the annexation of the Crimean peninsula to Russia in 2014.

According to Pak Sahafat News agency, The Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday that a group of journalists active in Europe had claimed that the 10 countries had sold over 345 million worth of weapons to Russia over the past eight years, some of which could be used in the Ukraine war.

According to the report, the German government said it had authorized the sale of “dual-purpose” equipment such as rifles and armored vehicles only after ensuring that they were not used militarily. France has also claimed that the weapons sold are due to contracts reached before 2014. According to the European Commission, military equipment worth 33 million was sent to Russia last year.

Christian Teres, Romanian Member of the European Parliament Which shares this data with the telegraph says: “As Ukraine cries out in despair to defend itself against Putin’s invasion, Germany and France remain silent and sell their goods to Moscow in disgrace.”

The British newspaper also stated that the French president intends to resume contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Emmanuel Macron told Radio France Inter: “Even if it is only for humanitarian reasons to access Mariupol, I think we should not give up. If this call can save several lives or improve the situation, it must be done.”

He claiming that if Western leaders cut ties with the Kremlin, China and Turkey would dominate the final peace agreement, said: “We should not be in a position where the negotiators are the presidents of Turkey, China or other countries, because we have decided not to talk to President Putin anymore.”

Many countries around the world, in response to the war in Ukraine, have imposed heavy financial sanctions on Moscow, gradually extending them to Russia’s energy sector.

On February 21, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region of Ukraine, criticizing the West’s indifference to Moscow’s security concerns.

Three days later, on Thursday, March 26, Putin launched a so-called “special operation” against Ukraine, turning tense Moscow-Kiev relations into a military confrontation. The conflict in Ukraine and the reaction to Russia’s action continue.
