Arrest of 52 protestors during the coronation ceremony of Charles III

Pak Sahafat – The British police announced that in order to prevent any disturbance in the coronation ceremony of Charles III, 52 protesters were arrested, including the leader of the anti-monarchy group “European Republicans”.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report from Reuters news agency, hundreds of demonstrators attended the British royal coronation ceremony wearing yellow clothing – different from the red, white and blue clothing of others – and holding yellow placards with the slogan “You are not my king”.

According to the announcement of the anti-monarchy group “European Republicans”, the leader of this group, Graham Smith, was arrested before the start of the coronation ceremony.

In the meantime, the pictures published on the internet show that the police officers were also collecting the placards of the demonstrators.

Police in England claim that demonstrators [in violation of their right to protest] have been detained for allegedly destroying public property and disrupting “official proceedings”. This is while the police and British government officials had previously announced their agreement to hold a protest rally on the coronation day.

Yesterday, after being released by the police, one of the protesters told reporters: “The police arrested me on the suspicion of carrying eggs.”

According to this report, the group of Republicans promised to organize the largest protest in the modern history of this country against the member of the British royal family. During the coronation, Charles and his wife Camilla were booed by protesters as they walked towards Westminster Abbey.

Of course, the British video media took great care not to broadcast the image of the protesters when the royal carriage was moving.

The protestors, whose number reached about 2 thousand people, then marched towards London’s Trafalgar Square in the rainy weather of London chanting the slogan “dissolve the monarchy”.

Demonstrations against the British monarchy were also held in Scotland and Wales. Demonstrators were holding placards with the slogan “Abolish the monarchy, feed the people” in protest against the high costs of holding royal events, especially coronations.

Reuters suggests in this report: Although the number of protesters was a minority compared to the tens of thousands of people who came to support Charles III, polls show a declining trend of support for the British monarchy, especially among young people.

With the death of the Queen of England, this trend has been intensified, so that in Australia, Jamaica and some Commonwealth countries, there were discussions against the acceptance of her son as the king.

In this regard, the Australian state government of “New South Wales” announced that in order to save money, it decided not to light the sails of the “Sydney Opera House” during the coronation celebration.
