American-style human rights; Execution of a woman in America

Pak Sahafat – The United States of America, which claims to defend human rights and always accuses non-aligned countries of violating human rights, executed a woman by lethal injection.

The news of the execution of “Amber McLaughlin”, the first transgender woman in the United States, was widely reflected in the country’s media, while many political and civil figures wanted to cancel the death sentence.

They believed that Amber’s mother abandoned her when she was a child and her stepfather repeatedly attacked her and this woman-committed suicide several times.

American authorities claim that they have executed this woman in connection with the case of murder and rape, and the execution of the death sentence was carried out after Missouri Governor Mike Person opposed the request for pardon.

The Missouri governor’s office claimed that the execution will go ahead as scheduled because the victim’s family and loved ones deserve peace.

USA TODAY wrote about this: McLaughlin talked to a Christian priest next to him while he was being injected with the lethal pentobarbital vaccine. After the injection, he took a few heavy breaths, then closed his eyes and was pronounced dead a few minutes later.

The 49-year-old woman was convicted of murdering 45-year-old Beverly Gunther on November 20, 2003, and a judge sentenced her to death in 2006.

McLaughlin was one of the few women to be executed since the death penalty by poison was reinstated in the 1970s.

According to the report of the US Legal Defense and Educational Fund, as of April 1, 2022, about 2,414 people were on death row in the US, 50 of whom were women.

CNN reported that Kamp, the woman’s lawyer, said: McLaughlin’s execution highlights all the flaws of the judicial system and is a great injustice in many ways.

He added: This execution continues the systematic failures throughout Amber’s life. There was no intervention to intercede and protect him during his childhood and adolescence. All the mistakes happened to him.
