Algeria returned it after discovering two dead pigs in a consignment of French wheat

The Algerian Minister of Agriculture announced that he had returned the cargo to the country of origin after discovering two pigs carcasses in a consignment of wheat imported from France.

Algeria has returned a shipment of wheat imported from France due to the presence of two dead animals, media reported.

French radio station Monte Carlo reported Thursday evening, quoting the official Algerian news agency, that Algerian Agriculture Minister Al-Hamid Hamidani had declared that the 27,000-ton consignment was unusable and would be sent back to France.

Al-Hamid Hamdani, speaking at a news conference, said the shipment would be returned to France and that French officials were seeking compensation.

The Arab 21 news site also reported that two dead pigs had been discovered in two stages of the shipment’s arrival in Algeria.

Algeria is one of the largest importers of wheat and France is one of the largest exporters of wheat to the world.

According to the Algerian network Al-Nahar, last week Algeria returned a shipment of 33,000 tons of wheat from Canada to the country of origin due to non-compliance with standards.
