African Union: The West’s treatment of poor countries should be similar to that of Ukraine

Pak Sahafat – Senegalese President Irena Macky Sal, who holds the rotating presidency of the African Union, demanded on Monday night that the poor countries [of the continent] should have the same dignity as [Ukraine] and that their problems should be treated with the same respect.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report from “Al-Nashre” news site, Sal, who was speaking at the eighth meeting of the Dakar International Forum, stated: African people believe that just when Ukraine is involved in war and this country is being attacked, Africa is also being attacked by terrorism; However, international solidarity with Africans is not seen in the face of the economic crisis that this continent is facing and also in dealing with [types of] diseases.

He also reiterated the desire of the African continent and said that the level of representation of this continent should be increased in international organizations, including the United Nations Security Council and the Group of 20, and that the continent should have a representative.

Sal added: Africa is not against Ukraine and we should not have the approach that Africans do not care about the situation in Ukraine.

He added: “But we are living in 2022 and not in the colonial era, so countries, regardless of whether they are rich or poor, should have the same dignity as [Ukraine] and should deal with their problems with the same respect.”

Many African and Islamic countries have criticized the Westerners’ dual approach to the Ukraine crisis.

The 8th meeting of the Dakar International Forum on African Security and Peace started on Monday with the participation of more than 30 countries in Dakar.
