A wave of strong criticism against Paris after the new restrictions on hijab

After the French Senate voted in favor of banning the hijab for girls under the age of 18, news sources reported that the French Senate’s move was met with strong criticism in the country and around the world.

Cyberspace users in France and around the world have launched a hashtag “Do not touch my hijab” to express their anger at a French Senate resolution banning hijab for girls under 18.

The French Senate recently voted in favor of banning the use of the hijab in public places for girls under 18, as well as banning the use of the hijab for children traveling with them, which will be legalized in France with the approval of the French National Assembly.

Al-Jazeera’s Mubasher website reported today (Friday) that the clause is part of a broader law entitled “Combating Separatist Tendencies” that could prevent veiled mothers from accompanying their children to school camps.

According to the report, ‌ in response to this action, a group of Muslim women activists in France have launched a scan, and also intellectuals and some Christian and Jewish religious leaders and figures in France have issued a statement in response to the move.

Al Jazeera reported that in addition to the French people, cyberspace activists around the world also joined the movement quickly, condemning the move by French President Emmanuel Macron’s government to narrow the field to Muslims.

Abdullah al-Shayji, a Kuwaiti academic, wrote in his account in response to the move: “The hysterical hysteria and enmity secularism in France with Islam exacerbates the extremism of Macron’s president [Le France] against the far-right leader Le Pen, so that he can achieve such an electoral achievement.”
